Toyota has previewed the EPU, an all-electric, mid-size bakkie concept. Here’s what we know so far…
Whereas the Hilux, for example, sits on a ladder-frame chassis, the battery-electric (BEV) bakkie concept features a monocoque body, which, the Japanese automaker says, delivers high durability to create a practical yet stylish BEV.
The bodywork measures “just” over 5 000 mm from bow to stern (5 070 mm, to be precise), 1 910 mm in width, and 1 710 mm in height. The wheelbase measures 3 350 mm.
Inside, the front compartment of the cabin is futuristic (note the yoke, which replaces a conventional steering wheel; it is a concept vehicle, after all) yet minimalistic, with a “clean”, horizontal dashboard design and a dual-display set-up. The latter comprises digital instruments and infotainment system. Looking at the materials, it seems sustainable materials have been used for the interior trim. The cabin seats five occupants.
The rear compartment links with the load bed. This, Toyota says, accomodates a variety of user preferences and supports a wide range of mobility lifestyles, which, of course, includes outdoor activities.
