The updated Toyota Hilux GR Sport has made its debut. The first GR-badged Toyota pick-up offered in Thailand, the Gazoo Racing Hilux, the manufacturer says, was “produced with the DNA of motorsports”.

Both models are powered by Toyota’s 150 kW 2,8-litre turbodiesel engine.

The Hilux GR Sport is the fourth GR product available in Thailand, after the Corolla GR Sport, GR Supra and GR Yaris. Two models are on offer – a four-wheel-drive derivative “inspired by the world-class racing cars that participated in the World Rally Championship (WRC)” and, as the manufacturer calls it, “Lo-Floor” variant, which is inspired by “Super GT car racing”.

The four-wheel-drive model, Toyota Thailand says, “will fit customers who prefer the GR Sport-design pick-up trucks”. This variant features Monotube shock absorbers, making “driving control more fun and ready to go on any adventure”.

The “Lo-Floor” variant’s suspension setup is 23 millimetres lower than standard.

The two-wheel-drive, Lo-Floor version, meanwhile, is for customers “looking for a stunning pick-up truck design”. This model features a 23 millimetre drop in ground clearance for “more stability” and “car-like comfort”.

Interior features myriad GR Sport-specific fitment.

Both variants come fitted with distinct exterior and interior design items, including “special” aerodynamics packages. The two models are distinguished by, among others, their specific front grilles and wheel designs.

Only one engine option is on offer – Toyota’s familiar 2,8-litre turbodiesel engine. Linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, the four-cylinder powerplant produces 150 kW and 500 N.m of torque.
