SVI Engineering is no stranger to armouring the Land Cruiser, be it fitting the 79 bakkie with a bespoke armouring kit or bulletproofing the LC 300 (and, recently, its Lexus LX sibling, for that matter). The South African armouring company has now launched an ‘advanced’ Level B4 protection for Toyota’s flagship SUV.

According to the firm, the “discreetly” armoured LC 300 (seen here in range-topping GR-Sport guise) represents the ideal anti-hijack solution. So, what makes this package ideal to stop hijackers in their tracks?

For starters, SVI has extended the standard package to include overlaps around all door closures and all of the windows (which have been replaced by 21 mm ballistic glass), including the fore and aft screens. In addition, the kit includes “precisely cut” Kevlar and armoured steel plates, fitted to several “vulnerable” spots of the vehicle (the pillars, for example). Full protection for the sensor package and various under-the-bonnet components are also included, as is front fender armouring. But how much does all of this weigh? SVI says approximately 350 kg. As such, the LC 300 doesn’t require a suspension upgrade.

So, how much does this “advanced”, 360-degree Level B4 of protection cost? R771 930 (excl. VAT). Customers also have the option of specifying B4 roof and floor armour, a PA system, “heavy-duty” run-flat rings for the tyres, and SVI’s luxury-seat conversion package. The build time, the company says, takes approximately three months.
