Toyota has whipped the covers off the RAV4 Adventure, a model that “reinforces the [RAV4’s] ‘go anywhere’ spirit with rugged styling that is ready for life in the great outdoors”. According to the Japanese car manufacturer, the latest edition of its midsize SUV will broaden the model’s market reach to people who want a vehicle that matches their love of life off the beaten track, while preserving the performance and efficiency of Toyota’s hybrid technology.

The most distinguishable exterior design element is the “purposeful” front-end design. The new black grille, Toyota says, lends the RAV4 “greater” visual impact, with the Toyota emblem moving down from the leading edge of the bonnet to a central position on double horizontal slats spanning the wide grille.

Adding to this RAV4’s adventure-focused persona, the midsize SUV is equipped with front fog lights, housed in black surrounds. A bright silver-finished under-run is fitted at the front and rear. The adventurous effect is amplified with the addition of a set of matte grey 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Adventure variant will be available with the option of a unique two-tone exterior paint scheme. Seen here, the RAV4 Adventure is dressed in Urban Khaki body hue. The roof, A-pillars and rear roof-mounted spoiler is finished in contrasting Dynamic grey. According to Toyota, this look pays tribute to the signature light roof of the classic FJ40 Land Cruiser.

Inside, the seats are trimmed in “dedicated” upholstery, which combines smooth synthetic leather with “deeply” quilted back and cushion sections. The black interior trim is contrasted by orange stitching. Scuff plates featuring the model designation are also included in the package.

The “Adventure”-badged Toyota RAV4 is powered by the Japanese automaker’s fourth-generation  hybrid powertrain. The “efficient yet powerful” petrol-electric arrangement comprises a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a duo of electric motors. The hybrid engine directs 166 kW (total system output) to all four corners via Toyota’s intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD-i) system.
