Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has announced it has once again set a sales record, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker recording a total retail sales figure (comprising Toyota-, Hino- and Lexus vehicles) of 15 008 in the month of March 2022. This amounted to a registered market share of 30 per cent.

The Hilux was once again TSAM’s top seller, with 4 561 units sold. The Corolla Cross (read our in-depth review in issue 04 of APEX magazine – on shelves now!) lead the way in the passenger-car segment, with 2 384 customers putting pen to paper for the tall-riding Corolla. This contributed to the firm’s topping the passenger-car chart last month, with 7 924 passenger cars sold.

TSAM also recorded chart-topping sales in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment (6 644) and medium commercial vehicle segment (341). 77 Lexus vehicles and 435 Hino-badged vehicles were sold.

“Looking at the March sales makes me realise how special the Toyota machinery is. We are truly humbled by the performance of our dealers, sales teams, our manufacturing division in Durban, and the other Toyota, Hino, and Lexus ambassadors for the stellar job they are doing,” said Leon Theron, senior vice president of sales and marketing at TSAM.
