Toyota Motors South Africa (TSAM) has announced it has set a record market share of 30.2 per cent in the first month of 2022, with the firm recording a total sales of 12 480 in January, topping the sales charts in both the passenger and light commercial vehicle (LCV) segments.
In the passenger segment, the automaker sold 7 946 units. In this category, the Urban Cruiser secured the title as TSAM’s most popular SUV, with a sales figure of 1 454. The Starlet recorded a sales figure of 1 472 while 1 356 persons put pen to paper for the Corolla Cross . Other notable sales figures were that of the Agya (888), Corolla Quest (741) and Fortuner (707).

“It’s no rocket science that our strong showing in the passenger segment has been bolstered by the new Corolla Cross, Urban Cruiser and Starlet and we’re grateful that our consumers are loving these models,” said Leon Theron, senior vice president of sales and marketing at TSAM.
The recorded sales figure in the LCV segment was 4 366. Overall honours were awarded to the Hilux which, in January, was Toyota SA’s highest-selling vehicle. A total of 2 803 persons signed on the dotted line for the company’s best-selling bakkie. 1 076 units of the Hiace Ses’fikile were sold.
On the luxury front, TSAM sold the Land Cruiser 300 and Land Cruiser Prado recorded sales figures of 249 and 164, respectively. Lexus garnered 53 sales.
