Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSA) has announced the imminent arrival of the second-generation Isuzu mu-X seven-seater SUV. Said Dominic Rimmer, senior vice president of technical operations at IMSA, “The upcoming Isuzu mu-X is a game changer for us, as it offers class-leading driver assistance technology, new state-of-the-art powertrains, and a luxurious interior, designed for maximum comfort for seven occupants.”

According to the local arm of the Japanese manufacturer, the new mu-X’s bold exterior design is matched by an “exquisitely crafted” interior, trimmed in “luxurious” fittings and soft-touch surfaces. The cabin, IMSA says, features the “the latest” infotainment technology, which includes smartphone-integration software such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay screen-mirroring functionality. In addition, the automaker says the new mu-X will be equipped with a suite of passive and active safety systems.

The new mu-X will soon throw its hat in the local bakkie-based SUV ring…

“We are steadily on track to launch the next generation Isuzu mu-X in South Africa,” Rimmer says. “Vehicle testing was successfully conducted late 2020 and we continue to test the vehicle under a number of conditions to ensure it is suitably prepared for South African conditions.” In preparation for the local entry of the next-generation Isuzu mu-X, the company has also embarked on dealer technical training for Isuzu technicians who will be responsible for the servicing and maintenance of the vehicles once sales commence.

The soon-to-arrive Isuzu mu-X is based on its bakkie counterpart, the new-generation D-Max. The new mu-X is manufactured at the Tokyo firm’s Samrong vehicle assembly facility in Thailand. Local pricing and additional information will be made available closer to the launch date of the new mu-X.
