The new Mercedes-AMG SL 43 has made its local debut. Here’s what you can expect, including (updated) pricing and spec for the four-cylinder SL.

We previously reported (as per Mercedes-Benz South Africa’s website) that the AMG SL 43 is priced from R2 316 547. However, with its arrival, the company has announced that the 2+2-seater roadster is now priced from R2 449 500.

So, let’s recap what you can expect… As standard, the SL 43 is equipped with LED headlamps;  19-inch alloy wheels, finished in grey; silver brake callipers, which form part of the AMG high-performance compound brake system; and sports suspension. As standard, the fabric soft-top is black (red or grey hues are available as an option).  In addition, the AMG SL 43 features Merc’s Mirror package, comprising electronically folding side mirrors and an automatically dimming rear-view mirror.

Inside, the AMG SL 43 features a digital instruments, a portrait-orienated, 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring and Benz’s MBUX Navigation Premium package. Wireless smartphone charging is also present. Benz’s THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system is included, as are heating functionality for the front seats and, to keep your neck warm when driving with the top down on chilly days, AIRSCARF neck-level heating.

The AMG Performance multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa leather. The AMG trim elements are finished in high-gloss black. Tyre pressure monitoring is included, among several other items. Safety items include active brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, cruise control, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages and the firm’s PRE-SAFE system.

The AMG SL 43 employs the Affalterbach-based automaker’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 280 kW (10 kW of boost is available for short durations) and 480 Nm of torque exclusively to the rear axle via the firm’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. According to Mercedes, these figures allow the 1 810 kg roadster to sprint to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 4.9 seconds, before topping out at an electronically governed maximum speed of 275 km/h.
