The thoroughly updated BMW X3 has launched in South Africa. “Sportier, more modern and more digital”, the facelifted model is priced from R895 658 to R1 415 042. See full pricing for the range below…

Five engine options are on offer.

The most notable exterior enhancements include a redesigned, larger version of the Munich car manufacturer’s signature kidney grille, revised fore and aft aprons, and slimmer (by 10 mm) LED headlamps. BMW Laser Light, which provides lighting range of “up to” 650 metres are available at additional cost.

Giving the SAV (sports activity vehicle in BMW speak) a “sportier” orientation, the M sports package features “significantly” larger air intakes, which are finished in gloss black. As an option, the kidney grille surround is available in the latter hue. The now “sportier” rear bumper includes a “more striking” diffuser, which features Dark Shadow paint finish. As standard, M sports specification includes Midnight Grey two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 245/50 rubber. The M sports brake callipers can be had in blue or red.

Facelifted X3 adopts the interior of the current 4 Series.

Further visual differentiation can be found on the M40i model. The flagship (until the facelifted M model arrives, that is) X3 sports a BMW M kidney grille which, in addition to its chrome-finished frame, bears the M vertical slats in high-gloss black; aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirrors and model-specific exhaust housings. The M40i further gains 21-inch M light alloy wheels.

Inside, the refreshed X3 adopts the centre console of the current 4 Series. The “significantly” improved cabin features a 12.3-inch touch-enabled central control display, sports seats, and three-zone climate control.

The local line-up comprises eight models.

Locally, the updated X3 is available with the option of five engine options, which comprise three diesel and a duo of petrol motors. The sDrive18d-badged X3 produces 110 kW, the xDrive20d 140 kW, and the xDrive30d 195 kW. The sDrive20i’s petrol unit churns out 135 kW, while the M40i produces 285 kW. All models ship with BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission, with the M40i gaining the firm’s eight-speed Steptronic Sport unit.
