So, what’s new to Toyota’s popular bakkie-based, midsize SUV? For starters, the Fortuner has gained a revised, more aerodynamically efficient front fascia, replete with a slimmer black mesh grille and a more prominent lower aperture. The grey contrast skidplate is also present. The headlamp clusters have received split-quad LEDs with a “waterfall” LED Line Guide signature, L-shaped LED daytime-running lights and apron-framing LED indicator lamps, which, on the models employing the firm’s familiar 2.8-litre engine, are sequential.

“More delicate” styling enhancements have been made to the rear. Revised items include the taillamps and aft bumper. The numberplate garnish is finished in piano black. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels are standard across the range.

All models feature leather trim for the interior (2.8 models gain dual-tone black and maroon leather upholstery with maroon stitching). The instrument cluster has been updated. The set-up features all-new graphics, a new black background ornamentation and a revised opening animation for the TFT display. USB ports have been added for rear passengers. Keyless entry is included.

As a reminder, in 2022, the Fortunater received an array of upgrades, with the 2.8-litre models gaining dual-zone climate and a panoramic view monitor (VX grade features selectable view). An 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio system is also present, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A host of standard safety equipment is included with the 2.8-litre models. These include Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of driver assistance features, lane-keep assist and alert, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and a pre-crash safety system.

Two engine options are available, a 110 kW/400 Nm 2.4-litre and 150 kW/500 Nm 2.8-litre. The former can be had with a six-speed manual gearbox and automatic transmission with a similar number of cogs. The 2.8-litre motor exclusively with the latter ‘box.
