One of the best emissions-free SUVs on the market? With its beautifully crafted cabin, comfortable ride, and exhilarating acceleration (for a 2.5-tonne SUV, that is), we’d argue it is. Indeed, the BMW iX xDrive50 hit us for a six during a recent test. Watch our in-depth video review below…

As a reminder, the iX xDrive50 is priced at R2 175 000. This variant is equipped with a 111.5 kWh (gross capacity) battery pack coupled to a twin electric motor arrangement, which produces 385 kW and 765 Nm of torque (not the 795 mentioned in the review). BMW claims a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.6 seconds. The top speed is rated at 200 km/h. The electric range is a claimed 549 to 630 km. Plugged into a DC fast charger, this model’s batteries offer a five to 80 per cent recharge time of 35 minutes.
