Porsche Design is no stranger to making exquisite, exclusive, vehicle-matching watches. (Remember the 911 GT3 RS Chronograph?) Now, with the reveal of the 911 Dakar, Porsche Design has unboxed a brand-new limited-edition chronograph to go with the German marque’s all-terrain sports car. Meet the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 — 911 Dakar and 911 Dakar Rallye Edition.
Ushering a first for the brand, the box-fresh timepiece’s housing is fashioned from particularly scratch-resistant and light titanium carbide. The case measures 42.7 mm in diameter and 15.5 mm thick. Like some of the firm’s other bespoke watches released with new Porsche cars, this model’s sapphire case back showcases an element reminiscent of the 911 Dakar’s wheels.
The 911 Dakar Chronograph is endowed with the company’s WERK 01.240 calibre movement, visible through the abovementioned element. The self-winding item offers a power reserve of 48 hours.
The 911 Dakar Chronograph is priced at $14 500, which, at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate, amounts to R249 769.46. Only 2 500 examples of the Chronograph 1 — 911 Dakar and 911 Dakar Rallye Edition will be made, each exclusively available to owners of the 992-generation 911 Dakar. Porsche 911 Dakar
As a reminder, the Porsche 911 Dakar, which has a ground clearance 50 mm more than a 911 Carrera with sports suspension, is equipped with the company’s 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged boxer-six. The horizontally opposed six-cylinder produces 353 kW and 570 Nm of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission directs power and torque to all four corners. Porsche claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically governed to 240 km/h.
However, the Porsche 911 Dakar’s party piece is, of course, its Rallye and Offroad driving modes and that, thanks to its standard-fitment lift system, ground clearance can be increased by another 30 mm at speeds of up to 170 km/h.
