Celebrating two design icons that share an unmistakable name, TAG Heuer has introduced two new colourful Carrera timepieces inspired by the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the German marque’s legendary sports car, the two luxury firms have again joined creative forces, reimagining the Swiss watchmaker’s iconic chronograph with these limited-edition pieces.
“The name and spirit of the Carrera are incredibly meaningful and emblematic for TAG Heuer and Porsche. So, for the 50th anniversary of the very first Porsche 911 Carrera, the iconic RS 2.7, we wanted to create a tribute watch that would express the character and power of this ground-breaking sports car within our signature TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph,” said Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer.
“The two timepieces we imagined together are sleek, assertive, and memorable; they reflect their illustrious past while also projecting something even more exciting – what Porsche and TAG Heuer can now achieve together.”
Detlev von Platen, executive board member for sales and marketing at Porsche AG, added: “The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911 to be christened ‘Carrera’ and was the crowning glory of the Porsche range at this time. The anniversary of this sports car icon is the perfect occasion for us to launch a joint watch with our close partner TAG Heuer, with whom we share the same philosophy and love for exclusive products that combine innovation and heritage.”
Based on the 42 mm Carrera chronograph, each piece sports a distinct two-tone colour scheme and TAG Heuer’s renowned Heuer 02 calibre automatic movement, which offers a power reserve of 80 hours. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres. The blue edition is limited to 500 examples, while only 250 units of the red edition will be made.
THE BLUE EDITION
Sporting a finely polished steel case, the blue edition features several nods to the Carrera RS 2.7. The rhodium-plated hands recall the sports car’s chrome door handles and window frames. The dial is made of smooth white opaline, while the two sub-counters feature an “eye-catching” “azurage” finish. The special edition is fitted with a fabric strap with the Porsche logo and Carrera markings. An “elegant” steel bracelet is included.
THE RED EDITION
Even more limited than its blue edition stablemate, the red edition’s case, crown, pushers and screw-down sapphire case back are finished in 18-carat 5N rose gold. The white dial is framed by a Guards Red circular line featuring rose gold-applied indexes, permanent seconds indicator, and hour and minute hands. This model is fitted with a red alligator leather strap.
The blue edition is priced at $7 750, and the red edition at $23 550. At the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate, these figures amount to R137 445.48 (blue edition) and R417 386.07 (red edition).
